What clearing covers
Clearing is trees, brush, and undergrowth taken out across an area instead of one trunk at a time: the half-acre a new build needs opened, the strip along a property line going to fence, the tangle of privet and volunteer pine between a Lake Greenwood cabin and its own shoreline view. Depending on the ground and the goal, the tools range from chainsaws and a chipper to a machine that eats brush whole. What happens to the debris is a real decision — chipped on site, piled to burn where lawful, or hauled — and it moves the price, so have a preference ready.
Where clearing stops
Straight talk about scope: vegetation is the job. Stump removal below grade is its own line item, and full sitework — grubbing roots, grading pads, cutting drainage — is excavation-contractor territory that larger projects price separately. On land near creeks or the lake, disturbing ground can bring erosion and buffer rules into play; a local pro flags that before machines roll, which is cheaper than learning it afterward.
